Hi, I’m Josh L. Gerson, a Production Sound Mixer & Location Sound Recordist for TV, Film, & Commercial Video Production. I’m based in Los Angeles, and available for travel shoots. Whether it’s a reality show that is constantly on the move,  documentary interview, a musical performance, or actors in a narrative film, I think the most important task as a sound recordist is to capture performances.

I began doing sound while attending Full Sail University’s film program, and since I graduated in 2015, my love for location sound has only increased. I have since worked on sound for movies, TV shows, ads, live performances, and new media. This experience is priceless since it continues to influence my approach to audio to this day. This diverse skill set comes in handy when video productions cross over into different realms, posing unique challenges

Having worked as a sound mixer for over ten years, I make sure the job is done correctly the first time. When you work with me, you can count on top-notch sound equipment, a wealth of expertise, and quality gained via experience. I enjoy working on unusual tasks, and I can manage any size job.

Unique Location Sound Solutions

Whether it’s complicated high channel count shoots, battling a Steadicam operator, capturing a live performance (and the audience), a fast-paced shooting environment as a solo operator, or something as basic as a sit-down interview with a single camera, every production has its own difficulties. Together, let’s identify a solid solution that meets the requirements of your video production.

The scope and content of commercial videos vary greatly, thus it’s critical to be adaptable to any sound requirements within the particular workflow of the production. Let’s discuss your needs and get an estimate for an equipment package that is specific to your production, from straightforward lines straight to the camera to intricate talent and camera blocking with numerous moving pieces.

The majority of documentary shoots include b-roll with natural sound, sit-down interviews, and vérité-style filming. Since interviews frequently form the core of documentary content, it is crucial to record clear dialogue. Being ready for any obstacles that may come up is essential because documentaries frequently need to be filmed in uncontrolled or subpar settings.

The goal of reality shows is to capture moments in real time, and they move quickly. The workflow usually includes a high number of wireless devices (such as producer IFBs, talent microphones, and hops to cameras) in order to enable the realistic filming style. Timecode sync and providing reference mixes to cameras become crucial factors in reality TV’s lengthy take, “always filming” methodology.

One of the hardest kinds of entertainment to record sound for is narrative films, which also have some of the highest standards for sound quality. Only by working with a complete production sound team—which includes a sound mixer, committed boom operators, and a utility sound technician—and cooperating with other departments to resolve issues that come up during production can high-quality production sound be delivered.

Whether performing live hits, man-on-the-street interviews, taped pieces, or anything else, broadcast television and TV news have very precise and essential procedures to follow. In TV news, it’s all about being ready for everything. I am prepared, experienced, and eager to join your TV news team.

The key to reliable Junkets is clear and reliable audio. From dozens of walk-in journalist to interviews over Zoom, ease of access and monitoring is essential. Special Content can be diverse, everything from PSA’s to Musical Skits, this requires the accumulated knowledge of capturing and transmitting sound. From earwigs to PDRs (Personal Digital Recorders) it requires flexible workflows and coordination with multiple departments and meet the needs of your project.
